Considering a Carrd – what happens when you have a pile of websites to keep track of

I’ve been thinkin a lot about making a proper carrd , and torn between that and using antipixel buttons. I suppose I could just throw my hands up and say “well why not both?”

The reason why not both is because that gets tedious, but all the same getting a carrd website also feels tedious.

Q: Well golly, why do you have so many websites?
A: I dunno?!?!?

I have a main and a sideblog on tumblr, which is honestly my preferred social media. I also have a bluesky, and technically a twitter (at this point only used to kind of squat on the URL and keep up with the few people who refuse to leave twitter the same way I’m kind of refusing to leave tumblr until or unless the ship crashes into the iceberg; don’t want someone to swipe that handle and start going off and have others assume that the person swiping the URL is me). I also have a neocities. I’m also severely considering getting a wafrn account because that feels as close to a tumblr clone as you can get without weird hangups so far.

  1. Main tumblr
  2. Side tumblr
  3. Bluesky
  4. Neocities
  5. The hypothetical wafrn

That’s a lot of places to be.

And hypothetically, if you were to get a carrd for it, it’d be an easy way to redirect people to the places you could find me.
But also at that point that’s adding a 6th website to the grand pile of websites.

And at that point one really ought to consider the old words of an arin hanson from one of those real old gamegrumps videos.

"You gotta draw the line somewhere! You gotta draw a fuckin' line in the sand, dude! You gotta make a statement! You gotta look inside yourself and say, 'what am I willing to put up with today?' NOT FUCKIN' THIS!!"

After a certain point it just becomes an egregious number of websites to be keeping track of.

And adding a carrd on top of that? It just gets ridiculous.

So. I think my plan is either antipixel button links or just like, a list of links directly on my neocities / a custom neocities page for that sort of thing.

This gets into the 2nd portion of my little blog post today

Hopping ship: Should I or won’t I?

With Regards to Tumblr Specifically, people have been saying a lot recently that it may be pertinent to look into hopping ship somewhere else. Mostly because of how things are going with the layoffs and the ever looming fact that Tumblr is kind of a Money pit to maintain in comparison to other websites (trademark) and how there may come a time that it’ll shut down (especially since tumblr is comparatively not as bad as other websites like twitter and facebook for monetizing people through ads and personal data selling).

Which would really be a shame for me since Tumblr is kind of the best sort of Social Media for a person like me rather than Twitter. It’s just the right kind of attitude and speed for me (I also keep my dashboard very well curated such that I don’t run into issues and that is some of it).

The closest thing to it was Cohost, and you gotta pour one out for Cohost as it’s no longer with us. Wafrn / goblin band are some fediverse-type alternatives, and People talk big about Pillowfort as a potential replacement, not to mention the fact that people out there are also getting a lot of mileage out of Dreamwidth.

It is also rather frustrating that some people are like “Well make your own website”. Sure, anyone could go make their own personal website, Heck, I made myself a personal website. That being said, I use my personal website rather differently than most people use such things. As a result, at least for me, I can’t use my personal website as a tumblr clone or social media website as well.

Not to mention that’s kind of just not a good answer to the question of “hey, what kind of semi-social media site can I use in lieu of tumblr?” to just “ no social media for you, what you clearly need is just a personal website” type responses.

I won’t really consider leaving tumblr until or unless it’s pried away from my cold dead hands.

Also does not help that I’ve been trying to get a code to get a toyhouse so I can have a spot to put my character stuff as a back up aside from like, what’s just on my computer.

That becomes yet another website to add to that list, and we circle back around to the initial conundrum. Though I suppose one could simply just cordon off a part of my neocities to effectively be somewhat of a Toyhouse mirror where it’s just stuff for my OC’s (and maybe that’s not an entirely bad idea but idk).

Again, I’d rather use antipixel link buttons / text links as an alternative, but a Carrd would make things rather convenient in terms of like, making something stylish.

It’s just a lament, that sometimes it feels fun and cool to keep getting more websites but like, that’s a lot to handle after a certain point. And I Suppose that I could just code it into a neocities, or pay for the premium and get more than one website there to have a carrd clone website. But at that point I might as well just get the Carrd site anyways.

And thus the cycle continues.
